YOUR SUPPORT TEAM

As athletes, we have been taught since day one to "be tough" or "the grind doesn't stop". Just because we decide to take a moment for our own mental health doesn't mean we aren't tough or weak. It means we are healing our body and mind the way we should.

This page is your support team. We offer a variety of support resources from within the Lynchburg community as well as surrounding areas.

A student-athlete's performance on the field or court can be heavily influenced by their mental health status, whether it is personal situations or other stressors. When we understand possible mental health issues we are facing, it is easier to combat and proceed with coping strategies.

This page is a resource describing the signs/symptoms of numerous disorders and when to know to ask for further help.

ABOUT

HOW TO HELP

When combating mental health, it is best know the signs and symptoms of different disorders to not only help you, but friends who you may notice are struggling as well. Being aware of these triggers can help you find practical solutions to improve your overall mental state and well being.

This page offers signs and symptoms of a variety of mental health disorders from generalized anxiety, depression, panic disorders, social anxiety, etc.

The stigma surrounding mental health, especially mental health of student athletes not only harms ones confidence but can lessen a person's likelihood to ask for help. As athletes we are taught to push through our issues for the sake of the game. Through educating ourselves and those around us about mental health, we can overcome and end the stigma surrounding it.

This page offers ways to overcome the stigma as well as programs to get involved in that are doing the same.
